Deputies in Apple Valley Attempt Traffic Stop on Stolen Vehicle when Driver Flees and Leads Deputies on Pursuit

LOCATION: Bear Valley Road & Central Road, Apple Valley
SUSPECT(S): James Charles Wilson, 34-year-old male transient of Apple Valley
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at approximately 9:56 pm, deputies were notified of an ALPR (Automated License Plate Reader) hit on a stolen vehicle in the area of Bear Valley Road and Central Road in the Town of Apple Valley.
Deputy D. Padilla located the vehicle driving on Sioux Road off Central Road and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued. At Valley Vista Road and Del Oro Road the driver of the vehicle exited and ran on foot. The Sheriff’s helicopter assisted deputies locate the suspect, identified as James Charles Wilson, who was hiding in the darkness near a bush.
During the investigation, a loaded firearm was located near the vehicle which the suspect had exited from and a systems check showed Wilson to be on active parole. Wilson was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm; felon in possession of ammunition; possession of a stolen vehicle and evading a peace officer.
Wilson was transported to High Desert Detention Center for booking. During the booking process, deputies located baggies of illegal narcotics on Wilson’s person. Wilson was booked for the above charges and for bringing narcotics into a jail facility.
On Thursday, March 6, 2025, San Bernardino District Attorney filed felony charges of vehicle theft, evading a peace officer, possession of narcotics while armed, felon in possession of a firearm, and bringing narcotics into a jail facility against Wilson. Wilson remains in custody at High Desert Detention Center, where he is currently being held in lieu of $350,000 bail.
