In the early hours of Monday March 3, 2025, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety (RPDPS) dispatch center received an audible alarm notification from John Reed Elementary School. RPDPS Patrol units arrived on scene within 3 minutes and observed that various rooms had been entered and vandalized. School officials arrived on scene to assist with the investigation. Due to the excessive vandalism that occurred in various rooms within the school, the Cotati Rohnert Park Unified School District (CRPUSD) elected to cancel school at John Reed Elementary School on March 3, 2025.
 
On March 5, 2025, RPDPS Detectives arrest 18 year-old David Beach for a violation of California Penal Code Section 459 – Burglary (Felony), a violation of California Penal Code Section 594(b)(1) PC – Vandalism (Felony), and a violation of California Penal Code Section 487(a) – Grand Theft. Beach was booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
