The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2025:
 
8:27 AM Officer Stevenson responded to Cherry St & Thornton Ave to investigate a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered by a neighboring agency.
 
8:29 AM Officer Lomeli investigated a stolen vehicle reported near Central Ave & Filbert St. Officer Williams later located the vehicle.
 
9:22 AM Officer Taylor responded to a retail theft reported near Jarvis Ave & Newark Blvd.
                                                             
11:30 AM Animal Control Officer (ACO) Fejarang investigated a canine bite reported at Birch Grove Park.
 
2:53 PM Officer Williams initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration near Wells Ave & Enterprise Dr. A 43-year-old male was cited for driving with a suspended license and was released on scene.
 
6:35 PM Officer Dale responded to the report of a license plate theft near Cedar Blvd & Port Sailwood Dr.
 
6:36 PM Officer Cervantes investigated a vehicle burglary reported near Willow St & Thornton Ave.
 
10:33 PM Officer Williams responded to a report of a person asleep behind the wheel near Cedar Blvd & Thornton Ave. A 31-year-old male was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for driving under the influence.
 
11:32 PM Officers responded to the report of gunshots heard near Spruce St & Thornton Ave. Investigation ongoing.
 
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2025:
 
1:46 AM Officers investigated several vehicle burglaries near Haley & Sycamore Streets. A backpack and multiple tools were reported taken.
 
9:03 AM Officer Shaffer responded to a domestic disturbance near Seawind Way & Hickory St. A 43-year-old male was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for battery.
 
11:09 AM Officer C. Torres investigated a jewelry swap theft near Magnolia St & George Ave.
 
2:11 PM Officer Kim investigated a license plate theft near Rosewood & Ruschin Dr.
 
3:54 PM Officer C. Torres recovered a stolen license plate along with a stolen vehicle near Enterprise Dr & Willow St.
 
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2025:
 
7:08 AM Officer Diaz-Perez responded to a domestic disturbance near Parkshore & Edgewater Dr. A 39-year-old male was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for domestic battery.
 
10:51 AM Officer Lor was dispatched to the theft of a license plate near Lido & Cedar Boulevards.
 
12:40 PM Officer Pacheco responded to the report of a battery near Cedar Blvd & Mowry Ave.
 
1:27 PM Officer Lara was dispatched to a report of retail theft at Newpark Mall Rd.
 
1:39 PM Officer Lor investigated a sexual assault reported near Bettencourt St & Mayhews Landing Rd.
 
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2025:
 
11:15 AM ACO Fejarang investigated a canine bite reported near Parkshore Dr & Rockport Ct. The dog was located and quarantined for two weeks.
 
11:49 AM Officer Lara recovered a stolen vehicle near Enterprise Dr & Wells Ave. A 24-year-old male was also arrested for an unrelated outstanding warrant and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
1:15 PM Officer Lor investigated a vehicle theft from Edgewater & Farnham Drives.
 
11:04 PM Officer C. Torres responded to a disturbance reported near Joaquin Murieta Ave & Cherry St. A 23-year-old male was arrested for battery and possession of narcotics. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2025:
 
8:41 AM Officer Diaz-Perez responded to a disturbance reported near Central Ave & Willow St.  A 23-year-old female was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
 
12:54 PM Officer Diaz-Perez investigated a license plate theft near Cherry St & Robertson Ave.
 
2:08 PM Officer Berlanga responded to the report of an unwanted guest near Newark & Cedar Blvd. A 35-year-old male was arrested for battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of narcotics, destroying evidence, and violating the terms of his probation. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
3:50 PM Officer Lor was dispatched to a disturbance near Thornton Ave & Sycamore St. A 28-year-old female was arrested for public intoxication and disturbing the peace. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
6:39 PM Officer Medina responded to a commercial burglary of a locker on Newpark Mall Rd where a purse was reported taken. The purse was later recovered with a wallet and phone missing.
 
6:48 PM Officer Orozco investigated a vehicle burglary reported near Cedar Blvd & Mirabeau Dr. Multiple tools and construction equipment were reported taken.
 
8:37 PM Officer Losier responded to a vehicle theft reported near Sycamore St & Graham Ave.
 
10:19 PM Officer Swadener responded to a report of a person asleep behind the wheel near Mowry Ave & Cedar Blvd. A 41-year-old male was found in possession of narcotics. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
SATURDAY, MARCH 1, 2025:
 
10:22 AM Officer Stevenson investigated a window smash vehicle burglary near Edgewater & Lake Drives. Multiple work tools were reported taken from the vehicle.
 
3:18 PM Officer Taylor investigated a theft near Haley St & Mayhews Landing Road.
 
9:26 AM Officer Orozco responded to a battery in progress near Cherry St & George Ave. A 21-year-old male was arrested for public intoxication and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.


SUNDAY, MARCH 2, 2025:
 
4:34 AM Officer Soto initiated a traffic stop near I-880 and Mowry Ave. A 28-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.  
 
8:16 PM Officer Soto initiated a pedestrian stop on Thorton Ave & I-880. A 22-year-old male refused to provide his identity. He was later identified and cited for narcotics and providing a false identity.
