SVPD Reports Decrease in Overall Crime for 2024
The Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) has released its finalized 2024 crime statistics, which highlight a continued trend of declining crime rates in the city. Despite a slight increase of 0.43% in crimes against persons, overall crime has not risen, and notable reductions in key crime categories demonstrate the department’s effective crime prevention and enforcement efforts.
Crimes against property saw a significant decrease of 4.56% compared to the previous year, with burglary and breaking & entering offenses dropping by 12.57% and theft from buildings down by 34.21%. Additionally, destruction of property declined by 4.89%, and weapon law violations saw a noteworthy decrease of 20.55%.
Crimes against society, which include drug and weapon law violations, also declined by 7.02%, while drug-related offenses specifically dropped by 6.96%, reinforcing the city’s commitment to public safety.
“These statistics reflect the continued dedication of the Simi Valley Police Department to reducing crime and maintaining the safety of our community,” said Chief of Police Steve Shorts. “While we remain vigilant in addressing crimes against persons, the overall decrease in crime reassures us that our proactive policing strategies are making a difference.”
