Driver Charged in Tuesday Evening Crash that Injured 10
South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka announced Friday that charges had been filed against the pickup truck driver from Tuesday evening crash on Route 1. The investigation determined that the pickup truck and its occupants were fleeing a crime when they failed to stop at the red light causing the four-vehicle crash that injured 10 people.
On March 4, 2025, at approximately 7:30 pm, South Brunswick Police Officers responded to the intersection of Route 1 South and Wynwood Drive for the report of a 4-car motor vehicle accident that involved injuries ranging from serious to minor and an overturned vehicle. An investigation of the accident, conducted by Traffic Safety Officer Trevor Michie, showed that a pickup truck that was operated by 18-year-old male, Yousuf Nadi of Monmouth Junction, recklessly ran through the red traffic light at Route 1 North and Whispering Woods Boulevard. The pickup truck crossed over the three lanes of the northbound highway and then entered the southbound highway broadsiding a 2015 Kia. The impact sent the Kia into a 2020 Hyundai and a 2010 Toyota that was also traveling southbound. After striking the Kia, the pickup truck overturned and landed upright on Wynwood Drive. The pickup truck had three juveniles in the bed of the truck who were all ejected into a nearby field. An additional 3 juveniles and 3 adults were in the truck's cab at the time of the crash. As a result of the accident 3 individuals suffered serious bodily injury and 7 individuals suffered bodily injury.
Further investigation of the incident, conducted by Detective Jamal Benbow, showed that Nadi and the occupants of his truck were fleeing from the area of a residence in Whispering Woods Development where they went to confront a juvenile over a physical dispute that occurred earlier in the day at South Brunswick High School. On March 6, 2025, Nadi was charged with 3 counts of 4th degree Assault by Auto, 7 counts of DP Assault by Auto, 7 counts of 3rd degree Endangering the Welfare of a Juvenile, 5 counts of 3rd degree Endangering the Welfare of Another Person, and 6 counts of 3rd degree Employing a Juvenile in the Commission of a Crime. Nadi faces 28 criminal charges and dozens of motor vehicle charges.
