Suspect arrested while burglarizing an occupied residence

On Saturday, March 8, 2025, at approximately 10:50 AM, SMPD Dispatch received a call from a citizen advising she received a notification from her residential surveillance system. The woman reviewed the surveillance and saw an unknown male break into her home in the 300 block of E. Dena Street.
The woman called SMPD to report the break-in. The woman excitedly told distach that her juvenile son was inside the residence and unable to exit.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, officers were dispatched immediately. Upon arrival, officers were able to establish communication with the child. The officers surrounded the residence and coordinated the juvenile's escape. Once the child was safe, the officers shifted their attention toward the burglar. The officers made a series of callouts to the suspect who eventually exited and was taken into custody without incident.
The male suspect, 42 year-old Santa Maria resident, was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail on felony charges.
