On March 4th, 2025 at 11:32am Edith Vance, 86, of Marion was operating a 2018 Ford Fiesta on West Henderson Street traveling West near the intersection of Woodlawn Street and US 221 Bypass. Pamela Smith, 57, also from Marion, was traveling in the same direction in 2007 Chevy Tahoe, but was directly in front of Vance stopped at the red light.
It is unclear why at this time, but Vance failed to reduce her speed and collided with the Tahoe that was sitting stopped. Vance’s vehicle sustained heavy front end damage as a result of the collision. Emergency personnel responded to the scene. Smith was transported to Mission Hospital McDowell for minor injuries. Vance was transported to Mission McDowell Asheville with serious injuries.
Vance later succumbed to her injuries which she sustained from the collision. There were no signs of impairment and speed was not a factor in the collision, therefore no charges will be filed.
