This ban does not affect N.C. Forest Service permitted, controlled, and attended fires more than 100 feet from a structure as the NCFS regulates this activity.
Burn ban for McDowell County remains in effect due to high fire danger through the end of the week. 
Burn Ban Remains in Effect for McDowell County
Due to continued high fire danager, the burn ban for all opening burning within 100 feet of a strucutre continues. The burn ban has been issued in an effort to protect life and property. Rainfall in excess of one inch is expected by Sunday. The burn ban will be reassessed at that time.
The ban applies to all open burning within 100 feet of a structure including:
- Yard waste
- Debris
- Land-clearing burns
This ban does not affect N.C. Forest Service permitted, controlled, and attended fires more than 100 feet from a structure as the NCFS regulates this activity.
