Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection to a 2024 armed robbery following an investigation.
On September 23, 2024, at approximately 11:04 a.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 2400 block of Washington Street, in reference to an armed robbery. The case was assigned to Detective Douglas Rivell of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Rivell identified 25-year-old Michael Smith as a suspect, and obtained warrants for his arrest. Smith is currently committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on an unrelated matter.
Smith has been charged with the following offenses:
- Robbery (First Degree)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and remains committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $56,000 cash-only bail.
