Remembering Motor Officer Carlo Poggetto

Today, we honor the memory of Motor Officer Carlo Poggetto.

On March 11, 1957, Officer Poggetto was killed in the line of duty in a motorcycle collision while attempting to stop a vehicle. During a traffic stop, he observed a serious violation and pursued the suspect when another vehicle turned left in front of him, resulting in a fatal crash.

Beyond his service, Officer Poggetto was actively nvolved in youth activities and played a key role in the construction of the Pomona Valley Quarter Midget Track in 1956. Located near First St. and East End Ave., the track provided a positive outlet for young kids in Pomona. The first official race was held on December 30, 1956.

Following his passing, the track was renamed the Carlo A. Poggetto Memorial Track on March 31, 1957, during a dedication attended by more than 4,000 people. In his honor, the first club race of each season was dedicated to him, a tradition that continued even after the Pomona track closed and racing moved to the Orange Show track.
