Increased fire danger today due to low humidity and gusty winds. Burn ban remains in effect for McDowell. 
INCREASED FIRE DANGER FROM NOON TO 8 PM EST TODAY...
Relative humidity is expected to decrease to the 15 to 25 percent
range across the western North Carolina and northeast Georgia by
this afternoon and early evening. Winds will increase during the
afternoon hours, with occasional gusts to around 15 to 20 mph. This
will combine with dry vegetation to increase the potential for
the start and spread of wildfires across the area.

Due to continued high fire danager, the burn ban for all opening burning within 100 feet of a strucutre continues. The burn ban was issued in an effort to protect life and property. Rainfall in excess of one inch is expected by Sunday. The burn ban will be reassessed at that time.
The ban applies to all open burning within 100 feet of a structure including:
- Yard waste
- Debris
- Land-clearing burns
This ban does not include cooking fires with grills and smokers. All fires within 100 feet of a structure should be extinguished immediately.
This ban does not affect N.C. Forest Service permitted, controlled, and attended fires more than 100 feet from a structure as the NCFS regulates this activity.
