The City of Moorpark has selected Captain Nick Odenath as its next chief of police. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce that Captain Nick Odenath has been selected by the City of Moorpark to become its next chief of police. Captain Odenath was chosen to replace Captain Darin Hendren due to his upcoming promotion to commander. Regarding Captain Odenath’s selection by the City of Moorpark, Sheriff Fryhoff said, “I’m confident Nick will continue the tradition of providing the residents of the city of Moorpark and the surrounding unincorporated areas with outstanding police services. Nick is a dedicated public servant, who brings a lot of experience to the position.” Captain Odenath started his career with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office in 2001. He has served in several capacities with the agency, including as a custody and patrol deputy, court services supervisor, custody watch commander, narcotics detective, asset forfeiture and financial crimes investigator, SWAT operator, human trafficking investigator and Technical Services supervisor. He is a graduate of the Ventura County Leadership Academy (VCLA) Cohort #26 and has a bachelor's degree in psychology from California Lutheran University. Captain Odenath is recognized as an expert in the field of human trafficking investigations. He works as a task force liaison for the federally funded human trafficking task force in the United States and teaches on the topic around the country. He and his wife, Kari, have two children and reside in the city of Moorpark, where he is active in his community. He is a member of the Moorpark Morning Rotary Club and volunteers for various local community events. Regarding his selection as the new chief of police, Captain Odenath said, “As I step into the role of Police Chief for the City of Moorpark, I do so with deep respect for the legacy of great law enforcement leaders who have come before me. Their dedication has set a high standard, and I am committed to building upon that foundation. Moorpark is home to some of the best-trained and dedicated peace officers in California, and we are fortunate to serve a community that supports and prioritizes public safety. Together, we will continue to work tirelessly to keep Moorpark one of the safest cities in the California.” Captain Odenath will officially start his position as the Moorpark Police Department’s Chief of Police on April 13, 2025. |
