Narrative:

On 9/12/2024, an Ojai Station patrol deputy was dispatched to a financial elder abuse call in the unincorporated area of Ojai.  During the investigation, the deputy learned a care giver for an 81-year-old female victim had been using their position to steal and alter checks belonging to the victim to obtain goods.  Ojai Station Detectives received the case and through various investigative resources identified the suspect as (S) Heather Moore.

Detectives learned Moore took advantage of the victim’s cognitive decline and altered checks made out to her.  Thankfully, an alert bookkeeper noticed the changes and alerted the victim’s family.

In total, Detectives learned over $3000.00 in checks were altered and forged, and made payable to Moore who then deposited them into her personal account.  Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Moore for violations of PC 368(d)(1)- Elder Abuse, PC 470(d)- Forgery, and PC 487(a)- Grand Theft.

On 1/23/2025, Moore was contacted by Detectives in the city of Oxnard and taken into custody for the warrant.  Moore was booked into the Ventura County Jail and is currently undergoing court proceedings.
