Amarillo, Texas – 03/14/2025 – The Amarillo Police Department has made an arrest in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Felita Bailey, which occurred in the 1300 Blk of Avondale St. Following an extensive investigation, the case was recently presented to the Potter County Grand Jury, resulting in the issuance of a true bill decision. Merron Kanye Bailey, 20, a resident of Dallas, Texas, was taken into custody by US Marshals on a murder warrant in connection with the crime.
The case has drawn considerable attention, and there has been an influx of misinformation circulating through social media, podcasts, and various activist platforms. False information and rumors have caused confusion among members of the publicthroughout the investigation. The Amarillo Police Department would like to remind the public that homicide investigations are intricate and require careful consideration, and these investigations can take time.
In response to these challenges, the Homicide Unit has dedicated significant resources to the investigation. Over 70 officers and investigators have worked tirelessly to gather evidence, while more than 60 evidentiary search warrants have been served. Additionally, over 50 witnesses have been interviewed as part of the investigation. This effort has been supported by several external agencies, including the Potter County District Attorney’s Office, U.S. Marshals, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
While the investigation is far from complete, the Homicide Unit remains committed to the pursuit of justice for Felita Bailey. Every step forward brings us closer to that goal. Investigators will continue to work diligently to bring the case to a resolution.
