Haledon Public School Placed on Brief Shelter in Place

On Friday, March 14, 2025, at approximately 1:50 PM, Officer Kris Duci observed two males wearing ski masks riding a motorized scooter on West Broadway near Cliff Street. The scooter was observed to have no license plates, and neither rider was wearing helmets.
Officer Duci attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop, however, the suspects fled onto Cliff Court. The suspects subsequently abandoned the scooter and continued their flight on foot. While fleeing, they discarded several items, including a knife, cell phone, and keys, on the playground of Haledon Public School.
In response to this incident and as a precautionary measure, Haledon Public School was placed under shelter in place to ensure the safety of students and staff. We are pleased to report that this situation was handled swiftly, resulting in the apprehension of one suspect at the intersection of Lee Avenue and Henry Street, while the second suspect was apprehended on West Clinton Street. Again, both suspects are in custody.
We want to reassure the school community that there is no imminent danger related to this incident. Our department is in active communication with the school administration of Haledon Public School and has deployed additional officers to the area to guarantee that children have a safe route home.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding throughout this situation. The safety and security of our children are our top priorities. As proven here today, once again, the Haledon Police Department has your back!
