Suspect with Multiple Burglary Convictions Arrested After Breaking into Bloomington Business

DATE/TIME: Sunday, March 16, 2025 / 6:34 A.M.

INCIDENT: Commercial Burglary, Theft with Prior Convictions

LOCATION: 11500 block of Cedar Avenue, Bloomington

SUSPECT: Fernando Cruz Antunez, a 24-year-old unhoused person who frequents Bloomington

SUMMARY: On November 5, 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.” The proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, and reforms multiple laws from Proposition 47, which have been responsible for increasing homelessness, drug addiction and theft. Proposition 36 includes several new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies will be able to apply during arrests when appropriate. These new charges can carry enhanced sentencing, as well as prevent offenders from being cite released prior to their court appearance. The following is an arrest where Proposition 36 is applied:

On Sunday, March 16, 2025, at about 6:34 a.m., Fontana Station deputies responded to a burglary in progress in the 11500 block of Cedar Avenue, Bloomington. The reporting party arrived at his business and found Fernando Cruz Antunez, a 24-year-old unhoused person who frequents Bloomington, inside his business.

Deputies determined Cruz Antunez forced entry into the business. Through investigation, it was determined Cruz Antunez had committed multiple previous burglaries at the same location since December of 2024 and had several previous theft convictions. At the conclusion of the investigation, Cruz Antunez was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center, where he is being held in lieu of $100,000.00 bail.
