Driver of U-Haul Rental Arrested for Hit and Run in Twentynine Palms

LOCATION: Twentynine Palms Highway and Mesquite Springs Road
SUSPECT(S): Jason Guthrie, 40-year-old Twentynine Palms Transient
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Saturday, March 8, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station responded to Twentynine Palms Highway and Mesquite Springs Road in reference to an unknown injury traffic collision. During investigations, deputies learned the victim vehicle had been struck by a U-Haul van bearing an Arizona license plate which fled from the scene in an unknown direction. Due to the victim's injuries, he was transported to a local area hospital.
While conducting an area check, deputies located the U-Haul van with damage consistent with a traffic collision. Deputies contacted a White male adult, later identified as Jason Guthrie, standing next to the van. Guthrie was detained but failed to cooperate and resisted arrest. Guthrie was eventually placed into handcuffs without futher incident. Deputies conducted futher investigation and learned Guthrie was the solo occupant and driver of the U-Haul van.
Guthrie was arrested and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for Hit and Run CVC20001(A) and Resisting an Officer PC69(A).
