Raines Charged with Drug Possession
Detective David Jones with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team charged 53-year-old Melissa Bowman Raines of Nebo with felony Possession of a Controlled Substance on Jail Premises and felony Possession of Methamphetamine. She was given a secured bond of $25,000.
On January 30, Raines was transported to the McDowell County Detention Center from another law enforcement agency. While being processed, an MCSO detention staff member discovered a suspected amount of methamphetamine and a glass smoking bowl on her person.
Charges were filed, and a warrant for her arrest was issued on March 5.
On Tuesday, March 11, Raines was arrested for those charges by Deputy Ryan Washburn during a traffic stop in Nebo, conducted by the NC State Highway Patrol.
After once again being transported to the McDowell County Detention Center, detention officers discovered another suspected amount of methamphetamine on her person, leading to additional charges.
Raines was subsequently charged again with felony Possession of a Controlled Substance on Jail Premises and felony Possession of Methamphetamine. She was given a secured bond of $50,000.
