Teen Arrester After Tossing a Firearm while Running from a Vehicle Stop

LOCATION: Kiowa Road & Bear Valley Road, Apple Valley
SUSPECT(S): 16-year-old Male Resident of Apple Valley
SUMMARY: On Monday March 17, 2025, at approximately 1:44 a.m., Deputy C. Hubbard and Deputy D. Ramires with Apple Valley Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a silver Nissan, for running a red light at Kiowa Road and Bear Valley Road, in the town of Apple Valley.
The driver of the vehicle pulled to the shoulder of the road and a juvenile male subject exited the vehicle’s rear passenger side and fled on foot. As the subject ran away, he threw an object (later found to be a non-serialized handgun) over a fence. Deputy Hubbard quickly caught the fleeing subject, and he was detained without further incident. A high-capacity magazine was located near the vehicle from which the male fled.
The 16-year-old male subject was arrested for carrying a loaded firearm in public. He was transported to the High Desert Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center for booking.
