North Carolina Forest Service has issued a statewide burn ban in effect Friday, March 21, 2025 at 8:00am. 
This is a message from Clay County Emergency Services. Due to the increased fire risk, the North Carolina Forest Service has issued a statewide burn ban beginning at 8:00am, Friday, March 21, 2025. The Clay County Fire Marshall's Office has also issued a burn ban within 100 feet of any dwelling in Clay County. The burn ban is issued under North Carolina Law prohibiting all open burning in all 100 counties regardless of a burn permit being issued. Burn permits will not be issued until further notice. Anyone violating the burn ban can face fines and court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire during the burn ban may be liable for any costs to extinguish the fire.
