Deputies Locate and Apprehend a Felon Wanted for Possession of a Stolen Firearm
DATE/TIME: Sunday, March 23, 2025 / 10:33 a.m.
INCIDENT: PC 2800.2 - Felony Evading, PC 30305(a)(1) - Felon in possesion of ammunition, PC 29800(a)(1) - Felon in possesion of a firearm.
LOCATION: Old Woman Spring Road and Crestview Road, Yucca Valley
SUSPECT(S): Steven Michael Hansert, 34-years-old, resident of Desert Hot Springs
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Sunday, March 23, 2025, at approximately 10:33 a.m., deputies found a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado, which had previously been documented as belonging to a wanted person. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Steven Hansert, a reported armed and dangerous individual. Hansert was traveling in the area of Old Woman Springs Road and Crestview Road, in Yucca Valley. Deputies initated a traffic stop. Hansert failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.
During the pursuit, Hansert fled into a mountain area of Yucca Valley where his vehicle became disabled. Hansert fled on foot into the 4600 block of Sand Piper Drive. With support from the Sheriff’s Aviation Unit, deputies were able to locate Hansert and took him into custody without further incident.
A subsequent search of Hansert’s vehicle revealed a stolen firearm and several hundred rounds of ammunition. Hansert was arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center on multiple felony charges, including PC 2800.2 – Felony evading a peace officer, PC 29800(a)(1) – Felon in possession of a firearm, and PC 30305(a)(1) – Felon in possession of ammunition.
