SUBJECT:     Felony Assault Suspect Arrested
 
LOCATION: 500 Block Winslow Street, Redwood City
 
DATE/TIME: March 24, 2025, Approximately 5:44 P.M.
 
On March 24, 2025, at approximately 5:44 P.M., the Redwood City Police Department received several 911 calls reporting a solo vehicle collision in the area of the 500 block of Winslow Street. The vehicle sustained major damage to the front end and the vehicle airbags were deployed. The driver of the vehicle was seen walking away from the scene and a female passenger was located outside of the vehicle. When officers arrived they learned the driver, 26 year old Redwood City Resident Julio Cesar Cruz, had assaulted the female passenger, was driving recklessly and intentionally crashed their vehicle into a center divide.

Several San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office deputies were in the area and heard this commotion unfold. They spotted Cruz and detained him without incident. Cruz was positively identified as the driver of the vehicle and placed under arrest. The female victim was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Cruz was later booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facillity for: Vehicle Code 23103(A) – Reckless Driving, Penal Code 207 – Kidnapping, Penal Code 245 – Assualt with a Deadly Weapon, and Penal Code 273.5 – Inflict Corporal Injury on Spouse (Domestic Violence).
