On Monday, March 24, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cassopolis Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in a parking lot on School St. in the Village of Cassopolis. Detectives had information that the subjects in this vehicle were in possession of stolen firearms. Jacob M. Morrison (18 yrs of Cassopolis, MI) and a 17-year-old male, whose name is currently being withheld, were detained and questioned. Several stolen firearms and ammunition from a break-in at Hayden’s Hardware Store (Cassopolis, MI) in January 2025, were recovered at the scene. Morrison was later arrested and charged with possession of stolen firearms. The 17-year-old male was charged with breaking and entering and possession of stolen firearms and was released to his parent. This case is still under investigation.
