Narrative:
On 03/23/2025, deputies assigned to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Liaison Unit (HLU) arrested a 34-year-old male for illegally possessing a firearm, ammunition, body armor, and narcotics.
At about 2:30 PM, HLU deputies conducted pro-active foot patrol of a section of the Santa Clara River Bottom (SCR) west of Victoria Avenue. During the foot patrol, HLU deputies contacted (S) Cameron Klopp trespassing in the area. A records check determined Klopp to be a convicted felon. During a search of Klopp’s property, deputies discovered he was in possession a Sawed-off Shotgun, Body Armor, Numerous rounds of Ammunition, Narcotics, and Narcotic related Paraphernalia.
 
Klopp was arrested for violations of Penal Code 29800(a)(1)- Own/ Possess/ Control Firearm by Felon, Penal Code 33215- Commerce/ Transfer/ Possess Sawed-off Shotgun, Penal Code 30305(a)(1)- Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition, Penal Code 31360(a)- Felon with Body Armor, Penal Code 27545- Unlawful Transfer of Firearm, Penal Code 602(m)- Trespass by Entering And Occupying, Health & Safety Code 11364(a)- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Health & Safety Code 11377(a)- Possession of a Controlled Substance.
 
Klopp was transported to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility where he was booked pending court proceedings. Klopp’s bail was set at $55,000.
 
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Liaison Unit is comprised of 1 Captain, 2 Sergeants, and 8 Deputies who are tasked with addressing issues related to people experiencing homelessness throughout the county. The team regularly assists unhoused individuals within the Santa Clara River Bottom by connecting them with services and resources in an effort to reduce homelessness. The services and resources that are provided include services through the Ventura County Health Care Agency, Ventura County Continuum of Care, Ventura County Behavioral Health, Ventura County Human Services Agency, and numerous other agencies. HLU is committed to engaging with the community to educate and build relationships with the most vulnerable populations within Ventura County.
