Newark Department of Public Safety Announces Job Posting – Chemist/Forensic Scientist
The Newark Police Division is seeking to hire a Chemist/Forensic Scientist to conduct chemical analyses of various substances, specimens, and materials submitted for identification related to criminal investigations.
This work will be conducted at the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Forensic Laboratory. It includes performing complex testing procedures with specialized chemicals, reagents, biochemicals, and other substances to complete various testing stages on DNA matter and physical evidence at crime scenes and in the laboratory under standardized laboratory protocol and compliant with state and federal guidelines. The Chemist/Forensic Scientist will also utilize computer skills to test, modify, and maintain analytical equipment needed for quantitative and qualitative analyses; to generate reports, log forms, and research papers; operate, troubleshoot, and validate laboratory instruments; maintain records of analyses, and facilitate intra-lab communications.
Required Qualifications: Educational requirements include graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Biochemistry. Qualified applicants must also present two years of experience in performing and independently conducting chemical testing, retesting, analytical examination, and analyses of bio-hazardous, organic, and inorganic compounds, and other matter conducted in a modern scientific, pharmaceutical, medical, forensic chemistry, or DNA testing laboratory.
