Media Release 

During the week of March 17, through March 23, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 14 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 215 DUI arrests compared with 211 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.90 percent.

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 223 major crashes so far this year compared with 229 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 2.6 percent.
 
To date, there were 7 fatal crashes, resulting in 8 fatalities compared with 10 fatal crashes, resulting in 11 fatalities for the same time last year (one fatal crash had multiple deaths). This represents a decrease of 30 percent for fatal crashes and 27.3 percent for fatalities.
 
So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year. 
 
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
