Advisory

Special Weather Statement until 05:00AM Sunday

A passing storm system will bring a significant increase in wind speeds across New Mexico Monday night through Wednesday, with the greatest impacts likely to be favored on Tuesday. Peak wind gusts will likely range from 45 to 65 mph, especially along and east of the central mountain chain as well as the upper Gila region. This will create dangerous crosswinds and the risk for property damage. Given the ongoing drought conditions, blowing dust will also make for dangerous travel conditions with visibility dropping to near zero at times during the afternoon into early evening. Expect the most intense blowing dust east of the central mountains, and this includes portions of Interstates 25 and 40. Meanwhile, widespread critical fire weather conditions are expected during this time. A fire will have the ability to spread and grow very rapidly under these weather conditions, especially given the drought conditions. Individuals with travel or other outdoor plans monitor the latest forecasts, watches, warnings, and advisories for updates on this potentially dangerous event.
