Missing in the Ojai Valley
 
Missing in the Ojai Valley is a public event hosted by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office in the city of Ojai.  The public event will be held on Saturday April 26 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. in the Nordhoff High School parking lot, 1401 Maricopa Hwy, Ojai, CA.
 
This public event is aimed at providing awareness and resources in the continued search for missing people and unidentified people from all around the United States.  In 2023 the FBI’s Crime Information Center reported that over 563,000 people were reported missing in the United States with 125,390 potentially leaving voluntarily.  Investigators spend countless hours searching for these missing people but sometimes come to a point where information becomes scarce.  In some cases, members of the public unknowingly have the answers or clues that can revitalize an investigation.  In many cases around the United States, these seemingly insignificant pieces of information have led to the recovery of a missing person or identification of a previously unknown deceased person.  Such information can bring closure to a family or provide long awaited information to a friend or family. 
 
Who Should Attend? Everyone is encouraged to attend. We especially would like to encourage families and friends who have been affected by the disappearance of a loved one to attend.  Detectives and Investigators from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office will be present to answer questions.  Your case does not have to have occurred in Ventura County or even California.  Detectives and Investigators can provide and collect information from any missing person case in the United States. 
 
What to Bring?  Family and friends are encouraged to bring photos, medical and dental records, or anything else you feel is relevant.  If family members of a missing person would like to provide a DNA sample at the event, we will be able to collect that as well.  Advancements in genealogical DNA have assisted in multiple investigations throughout the United States. 
 
What to Expect?  Attendees will be able to talk to investigators and get information on the most recent techniques and practices in the use of genealogical DNA.  Children and vulnerable adults can participate in “Kid / Adult Print”.  This program gathers and preserves information about your child or vulnerable adult including a photograph, contact information, hand and palm print, and more.  Participants in Kid / Adult Print also receive an identification card.  This information can be vital to law enforcement if your child or vulnerable adult becomes missing.
