Felony OWI Arrest - 11th Offense
On April 2, 2025, at 1:24am, a Middleton Police officer was driving on University Avenue and an oncoming car failed to dim their high beam headlights. The officer initiated a traffic stop in the 7700 block of Elmwood Avenue in the City of Middleton.
The officer identified the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle as Timothy L. Burkhalter, 63, of Mazomanie. The officer noticed an odor of intoxicants and Burkhalter's eyes were glossy. Burkhalter admitted to drinking prior to driving.
After conducting field sobriety testing, Burkhalter was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). This is his 11th OWI arrest, and it is a felony. He provided an evidentiary breath sample, which showed his blood alcohol level was 0.11. The legal limit in Wisconsin is 0.08. At the time of operation, Burkhalter had a valid driver's license and a 0.02 prohibited alcohol concentration restriction.
Burkhalter was booked into Dane County Jail on the tentative 11th OWI charge.
