Flood Warning until 04:00PM

* WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central, northern, and southern West Virginia, including the following counties, in central West Virginia, Braxton, Calhoun, Clay, Gilmer, Jackson, Nicholas and Roane. In northern West Virginia, Lewis. In southern West Virginia, Kanawha and Putnam.

* WHEN...Until 400 PM EDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 957 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated light to occasionally moderate rain falling. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 0.75 and 1.25 inches of rain has fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Nitro, Spencer, Winfield, Sutton, St. Albans, Dunbar, Sissonville, Clendenin, Gassaway, Pratt, Wallback and Big Otter. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.
