Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. reports the arrest of Sawab O. Williams, 51, of Newark, who was being sought for an assault by auto and endangering an injured victim in striking a pedestrian on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
At approximately 7:36 a.m., Police responded to the intersection of Irvine Turner Boulevard and Spruce Street on a call of a 9-year-old girl struck by a vehicle at that location. The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment. She is reportedly in stable but critical condition. The driver did not remain at the scene.
Detectives investigating this incident identified Sawab O. Williams as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Williams faces charges of assault by auto and endangering an injured victim.
These charges are merely accusations. This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
