Information:
On April 2, 2025, at approximately 2:40 p.m., a school resource officer from the Rialto Police Department was notified regarding two students, Daphne Vargas, and Abigail Schmit, who reportedly walked away from Carter High School after being dropped off by their parents earlier in the day.
Officers learned that both juveniles had a concerning behavioral pattern of frequent truancy. Officers attempted to reach Daphne by phone, but during the call, she hung up on officers and later blocked further attempts to contact her. Daphne has turned off her phone making it impossible for officers to contact or locate her. Meanwhile, Abigail gave her cell phone to another student before leaving campus, instructing that student to discard it to prevent further contact.
The Rialto Police Department is actively investigating this missing juvenile report trying to locate Daphne Vargas; and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department has taken a missing juvenile report for Abigail Schmit (Report DR: 032500868).
Description of Missing Juveniles:
Daphne Vargas: Last seen wearing a black "Billie Eilish" hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans.
Abigail Schmit: Last seen wearing a black zip-up sweater with a white print on the front and black baggy jeans.
The Rialto Police Department is working diligently to locate both juveniles. Missing Juveniles are not taken lightly by the Rialto Police Department and we are requesting media assistance in broadcasting the names, descriptions and photographs of these two missing juveniles. The Rialto Police Department’s paramount concern is for Daphne and Abigail to return home and be reunited with their parents.
The Rialto Police Department requests anyone with information about the whereabouts of Daphne and Abigail to contact Detective Corporal A. Glass at (909) 820-2550 or Detective A. Watson at (909) 512-2130. Witnesses can also anonymously report information through WeTip at (800) 782-7463, reference case number 932503891.
