We have received many questions from our community regarding the Nixle message you may have received yesterday from the Marin County Office of Emergency Management.

If you did not receive their Nixle message, it stated: “The Marin County Fire Department and Marin County Sheriff’s Office will no longer be using Nixle. To ensure you receive all notifications, please sign up for emergency alerts at emergency.MarinCounty.gov "

The Mill Valley Police Department will continue using Nixle, as well as Alert Marin, to provide notifications to our community.

Alert Marin may be used:

• When ACTION is needed at a SPECIFIC ADDRESS OR NEIGHBORHOOD
• The actions are generally evacuation or shelter in place
• Imminent flooding, wildfires, and evacuations with life safety implications
• Event information about evacuation routes, shelters, and transportation
• Public safety incidents including crimes that affect your neighborhood

Nixle may be used:

• When INFORMATION is needed in a ZIP Code
• Full closure of a main roadway, issues affecting larger areas
• Serious event with major impact
• Post-disaster information
• Police activity and general public safety information
