Update #3 – Suspect Charged (Investigation - Maryland Avenue and Lower Oak Street):

Wilmington Police have charged a man in connection with Monday’s fatal motor vehicle collision.

The driver of the vehicle involved in this incident was identified as 22-year-old Elijah Davis. Davis was located in Bear and taken into custody without incident.

Davis has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Manslaughter
  • Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Death
  • Failure to Stop at a Red Light
  • Driving a Vehicle at Unreasonable Speed
  • Driving in No Passing Zone
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $55,000 cash-only bail.

Update #2 – Victim Identified (April 7):

The victim has been identified as 15-year-old Sa’riyah Patterson.

This incident remains under investigation by the WPD Special Operations Division/Traffic Unit, and further details will be released when possible.

The vehicle involved in this collision fled from the scene, but was recovered in Bear and the driver has been located.

Original message (April 7):

Wilmington Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 5:07 a.m. in the area of Maryland Avenue and Lower Oak Street.

Police located a female juvenile who was struck by a vehicle. The victim is believed to be between 15 and 17 years old. The female juvenile was transported to the hospital in critical condition, and later succumbed to her injuries.
