Newark Police Department Crime Blotter: Monday March 31 - Sunday April 6, 2025

The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, MARCH 31, 2025:
 
6:56 AM Officer Taylor was flagged down near Cedar Blvd & Joaquin Murieta Ave for a person acting suspiciously near parked vehicles. A 39-year-old male was arrested for an outstanding warrant and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.  
 
8:27 AM Officer Stevenson responded to multiple vehicle burglaries reported near Cedar Blvd & S Magazine Dr. Tools were reported taken from one vehicle.
 
11:23 AM Officer Kim conducted a pedestrian stop on Jarvis Ave & Newark Blvd. A 44-year-old male was located with an outstanding warrant and narcotics. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail for violating the terms of his probation.
 
12:16 PM Officer Diaz-Perez performed a traffic stop near Cedar Blvd & Mowry Ave for a vehicle without license plates. A 33-year-old male was cited for driving without a license and no license plates. A 31-year-old female was cited for an outstanding warrant.
 
12:33 PM Officer Jackman was dispatched to a commercial burglary on Clark Ave & Cherry St. Point of entry was gained by cutting through a ceiling.
 
2:32 PM CSO Lau investigated a residential burglary near Sycamore & Filbert St. Multiple personal belongings and electronics were taken from a garage.
 
6:58 PM Officer Williams responded to a suspicious vehicle in the area of Central Ave & Cedar Blvd. A 41-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
8:02 PM Officer Dale investigated a stolen vehicle reported near Deborah St & Zulmida Ave.
 
9:08 PM Officer Dale contacted a 43-year-old male on probation near Thornton Ave & Cedar Blvd. He was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for possession of narcotics and violating the terms of his probation.
 
TUESDAY, APRIL 1, 2025:
 
6:36 AM Officer Kim responded to Newpark Mall Road for a window smash vehicle burglary. Reported loss included various construction tools.
 
2:39 PM Officer Losier initiated a traffic stop near Newark Blvd & Civic Terrace Ave. A 40-year-old male was cited for outstanding warrants.
 
11:44 PM Officer Dale investigated a pickpocket scam in the area of Jarvis Ave & Newark Blvd. A shopper was distracted and noticed a wallet was taken from their possession. The wallet was reclaimed quickly after noticing it was missing.
 
7:17 PM Officer Cervantes responded to Edgewater Drive for a vehicle theft.
 
10:59 PM Officers were dispatched to a residential burglary near Magnolia & Filbert St. Entry was gained from a window. No loss was reported.
 
11:44 PM Officer Dale initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired plates near Cherry St & Thornton Ave. A 43-year-old male was cited for driving with a suspended license and possession of narcotics.
 
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2, 2025:
 
5:12 AM Officer Williams investigated a vehicle burglary near Walnut St & Wells Ave. Loss of aftermarket vehicle parts were reported.
 
11:12 AM Officer C. Torres recovered a stolen vehicle near Dairy Ave & Magnolia St.
 
2:48 PM Officer Kim investigated a commercial burglary on Newpark Mall Road. A locker was broken into, resulting in the loss of a wallet and multiple keys.
 
5:45 PM Officer Berlanga investigated a license plate theft near Jarvis Ave & Spruce St.
 
THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 2025:
 
7:12 AM Officer Berlanga responded to the report of a theft of building materials on Newpark Mall Road.
 
9:30 AM CSO Lau investigated a report of graffiti near Newark Blvd & Civic Terrace Ave.
 
12:04 PM Officer Piquette initiated a traffic stop near Cherry St & Mowry Ave. A 33-year-old male was arrested for driving on a suspended license and failing to follow court orders. He was released from the scene with a citation.
 
2:07 PM Officer Lara responded to the area of Thornton Ave & Cedar Blvd for a welfare check of a person lying on the floor. A 66-year-old male was located with narcotics, violating the terms of his probation. He was booked into Santa Rita jail.
 
FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2025:
 
3:29 AM Officer Quinonez responded to a report of suspicious activity near Sycamore & Filbert Streets. A 35-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics. Another 30-year-old male was located with outstanding warrants. Both were booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
4:01 AM Officers were dispatched to the area of Thornton Ave & Cherry St for a reported stolen vehicle. A 45-year-old male was arrested for vehicle theft, narcotics, fraud, and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail. Another 47-year-old male was cited for possession of narcotics.
 
5:00 AM Officers responded to the area of Newark Blvd & Jarvis Ave for a commercial burglary. A 19-year-old male was arrested for burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, and evading arrest. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail. A juvenile was released on scene.
 
5:36 AM Officer Losier conducted a traffic stop near Cherry St & Clark Ave on a stolen vehicle. A 47-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics and was released with a citation.
 
6:57 AM Officer Lara was dispatched to a window smash vehicle burglary that occurred near Thornton Ave & Willow St. Multiple tools were reported taken.
 
7:07 AM Officer Berlanga responded to a commercial burglary near Cherry St & Smith Ave. A fence was cut through and various tools and keys were stolen.
 
7:15 AM Officer Pacheco was dispatched to a window smash vehicle burglary that occurred near Spruce St. Reported loss included tools. Officer Pacheco then investigated an unreported vehicle theft near Cherry St & Central Ave. The vehicle was recovered by a partner agency.
 
8:07 AM Officer Lara responded to an attempted vehicle theft near Cedar Blvd & Chapman Dr caused by window smash. The ignition was tampered with.
 
SATURDAY, APRIL 5, 2025:
 
9:18 AM Officer C. Torres conducted a pedestrian stop near Clark Ave & Cherry St. A 46-year-old male was arrested for outstanding warrants and violating the terms of his probation. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:52 AM Officer Dale responded to Newpark Mall Road for a report of shoplifting. A 52-year-old female was cited for theft.
 
8:34 PM Officer Orozco responded to Newpark Mall Road for an active battery. A 28-year-old male was arrested for battery and disorderly conduct. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
SUNDAY, APRIL 6, 2025:
 
7:08 AM Officer Diaz-Perez investigated a vehicle theft that occurred near Joaquin Murieta Ave & Cedar Blvd.
 
11:36 AM Officer Dale contacted a 43-year-old male in possession of narcotics (a violation of his court order) near Newark Blvd & Jarvis Ave. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:42 AM Officer C. Torres investigated a court order violation that occurred on Port Sailwood Dr. A 23-year-old male was arrested for violating a court order and carrying a weapon. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
6:34 PM Officer Soto responded to a commercial burglary that occurred near Thornton Ave & Sycamore St. Multiple building materials were reported taken from a construction site.
 
6:36 PM Officer Swadener responded to a report of a commercial burglary on Mowry School Road. A lock was cut off and the loss is currently unknown.
 
6:50 PM Officer Soto responded to a disturbance near Cherry St & George Ave. A 44-year-old male was arrested for battery and criminal threats. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
