Remembering Motor Officer George Muriset

Today, we honor and remember Pomona Police Officer George Muriset, who began his service in 1950. Starting as a young officer, he found his niche in the traffic division, where he worked as a Motorcycle Officer.

After serving just four years, Motor Officer Muriset was involved in a motorcycle accident on April 6, 1954, while on patrol on Reservoir Street.

On the day of the accident, heavy fog had significantly reduced visibility for all motorists. An individual backed out of a driveway onto Reservoir, directly into the path of Officer Muriset. This resulted in a violent collision between the motorcycle and the vehicle, which led to injuries that ultimately claimed Officer Muriset’s life on April 9, 1954.

We honored Officer Muriset today by having a memorial ceremony in his honor. The Pomona Police Department will always remember Motor Officer George Muriset.
