GTPD Media Release - Fatal Dwelling Fire Displaces Multiple Families and Businesses 4-9-2025

On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at approximately 8:08pm, Gloucester Township Police Officers were dispatched to 410 North Black Horse Pike in the Glendora section of Gloucester Township in response to an active dwelling fire.  Arriving units observed heavy smoke and fire conditions from the third floor of the building. Neighboring residences were safely evacuated for precautionary reasons.
 
Fire Departments from Gloucester Township Station 81, Station 82, Station 83, Station 84, Squad 88, Runnemede and Somerdale responded and quickly brought the fire under control.  Assistance was also provided by Inspira EMS, Camden County Office of Emergency Management and NJ State DOT.  The Black Horse Pike was shut down in both directions while the fire was brought under control.
 
The building was home to two businesses and two apartments.  One resident ,who had succumbed to the fire, was located by fire personnel during a search of the building. Two other families including six residents are displaced at this time and receiving assistance from family in the area. 
 
At this time, the fire does not appear suspicious and is currently under investigation by the Camden County Fire Marshal. 
 
This incident serves as a reminder to check your fire suppression systems, including alerts and audible alarm systems, to ensure they are operational. Smoke alarms are a key component of any fire escape plan. When there is smoke, there is fire, which can spread quickly. Working smoke alarms provide early warnings, allowing you to evacuate promptly.
