Sinatra Drive closure update; All lanes to remain closed overnight; Do not move barricades
Please be advised, the City of Hoboken Office of Emergency Management and Hoboken Police Department will close Sinatra Drive between Fifth Street and Hudson/11th Street, in both directions, between the hours of 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. tomorrow, (Friday) April 11, Saturday, April 12, Sunday, April 13, and Monday, April 14.
Between the hours of 6 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., the western lane of Sinatra Drive will be open for northbound vehicular traffic. As previously announced, Southbound traffic will be detoured onto Hudson Street between Sinatra Drive North and Fifth Street. Southbound truck traffic will be diverted onto Washington Street. The eastern lane of Sinatra Drive from Fifth Street to Sinatra Drive North will remain closed 24/7 for the duration of the project.
The overnight full closure is being put into place out of an abundance of caution, to ensure the safe and timely completion of a new traffic pattern implemented for the Waterfront Reconstruction Project.
Do not drive around, or move, barricades. They are in place for your safety. Detour signage is also being posted.
For safety reasons, and as previously announced, pedestrian access will also be prohibited near the construction area on both sides of Sinatra Drive between the gazebo and the southern border of the former Union Dry Dock site. Parking will be limited in the construction area. Please follow the posted Temporary No Parking signs.
Hoboken Police officers will be on-site between the hours of 6 a.m. and 12 a.m.
Construction is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. To expedite construction, the City will seek future City Council approval for a waiver from the noise ordinance to extend these hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, allow for work on Saturdays between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., and on select federal holidays.
The Waterfront Reconstruction Project, which follows a thorough investigation triggered by a sinkhole near Sybil’s Cave in June 2024, will ensure the long-term safety, resilience, and functionality of the critical waterfront infrastructure and lay the foundation for the Sinatra Drive Redesign Project and the first phase of Maritime Park. This first phase of the project aims to rebuild and stabilize the eroding concrete seawall beneath portions of Sinatra Drive and the waterfront walkway from approximately the gazebo near Seventh Street to the skate park near Ninth Street.
This phase of the project is expected to be completed by fall 2025.
