Join the Intelligent Trees film discussion
The Hoboken Shade Tree Commission and Hoboken Public Library will host a screening and film discussion of Intelligent Trees on Thursday, April 24, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. At the Hoboken Public Library, 500 Park Ave. The documentary investigates and observes the communication between trees over decades with German forester and author Peter Wohleben and scientist Suzanne Simard of the University of British Columbia, Canada.
Join the annual tree tour to celebrate Arbor Day
The City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Shade Tree Commission invite residents to the Joyce Kilmer Arbor Day Tree Tour in honor of Diana Davis on Friday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The three-hour tour will teach residents about different tree species, the importance of tree diversity, tree lifecycles, & more.
Residents can walk to any location to participate. The locations and approximate discussion times are as follows:
- 9:00 AM - Multi-Service Center
- 9:15 AM - Pier A Park
- 9:45 AM - Southwest Resiliency Park
- 10:00 AM - 7th & Jackon Resiliency Park
- 10:30 AM - Tree Farm at 14th & Madison Streets
- 11:00 AM - Elysian Park
- 11:15 AM - Stevens Park
- 11:30 AM - Church Square Park
- 12:00 PM - Multi-Service Center
Those with mobility issues can take a free Hop shuttle which will depart at 9 a.m. and return at approximately 12 p.m. at the Multi-Service Center, 124 Grand St.
Help replant the tree farm
The Hoboken Shade Tree Commission invites members of the public to join commissioners to plant, weed, and clean up the City's Tree Farm under the Viaduct at 14th and Madison Streets from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, April 25. Attendees will plant and replant seedlings and saplings of maple, oak, persimmon, swamp white oak, redbud, and hackberry trees and learn about tree care.
Register for Arbor Day Tree Bingo
The Hoboken Public Library and Shade Tree Commission have partnered to offer Arbor Day Tree Bingo at the Hoboken Public Library, 500 Park Ave. on Saturday, April 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. All ages are invited. Registration is required at https://hobokenlibrary.libnet.info/event/13431293
