Dear Collingswood Residents,
The Camden County Health Department has confirmed that a raccoon found in Collingswood has tested positive for rabies.
On April 8 and 9, two separate incidents involving a raccoon occurred in our town—one involving a resident’s dog, and another during a walk. The raccoon was captured by Animal Control and tested at the state lab, where it was confirmed to be rabid. All exposed individuals have received appropriate treatment, and the vaccinated dog involved is under observation.
We urge all residents to take the following precautions:
-
Keep pet vaccinations up to date and supervise your pets outdoors.
-
Avoid contact with wild or unfamiliar animals—even if they appear friendly.
-
Secure trash cans and avoid leaving food out that may attract wildlife.
-
Teach children not to touch unfamiliar animals.
If you see a stray or wild animal acting strangely, contact Collingswood Animal Control immediately.

Stay safe,
Borough of Collingswood
