Gang Member Arrested With Firearms
This evening at about 8:30 PM, members of the Simi Valley Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) contacted local resident and known gang member, Manuel De Los Santos (age 27), as he sat in a vehicle parked in the Kaiser Permanente parking lot located at 3855 Alamo St. De Los Santos was wanted on a felony violation of his PRCS (Post Release Community Supervision) condition and was taken into custody. Officers continued with their investigation and located two handguns as well as ammunition in the vehicle. One of the handguns was registered to a Camarillo resident.
Assembly Bill 109, also known as the Public Safety and Realignment Act became law in 2011, which shifted responsibility of supervising certain offenders from state prison to the counties in which they reside. De Los Santos PRCS condition falls within AB109, and his initial arrest stemmed from a violation of his condition. He will also be charged with being in possession of both loaded handguns and will be taken to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department’s Main Jail in Ventura for booking.
The Simi Valley Police Department’s SET team is an entity within the Special Enforcement Bureau and was established as a crime suppression unit meant to address various crimes within the City. Those duties include gang enforcement, enforcement of lewd/dissolute conduct in public, Human Trafficking enforcement, ABC (Alcohol Beverage Control) enforcement investigations and assessment, the enforcement of street-level narcotics, and warrant service on wanted individuals.
