Prescribed pile burn TODAY (4/21) in Novato area through Thursday (5/08). Visible smoke.
A prescribed pile burn will take place TODAY, Monday, April 21, through Thursday, May 8, in the Loma Verde and Country Club neighborhoods of Novato. Burning will begin in the northeast corner of the Country Club neighborhood on Capilano Drive and progress counterclockwise around the Country Club area.
Pile burning will occur between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and smoke may be visible throughout the area during those hours. Crews will not be burning every day, as site preparation and weather conditions will determine the daily schedule. Please do not call 9-1-1 to report smoke from this planned operation.
This fuel reduction project is part of the Greater Novato Shaded Fuel Break and is a coordinated effort between Marin County Parks Open Space, Marin County Fire’s Tamalpais Fuels Crew, and the Novato Fire District Vegetation Management Specialists.
Pile burning is an effective way to reduce hazardous vegetation left behind after hand thinning. These fuels reduction efforts help firefighters protect our neighborhoods and strengthen wildfire resilience in our community.
