Man arrested for Indecent Exposure and Annoying a Child in Downtown Petaluma:

On April 19, 2025, at approximately 3:40 pm, Petaluma Police Department officers responded to the area of 2nd Street and C Street to investigate an indecent exposure report.  As officers responded to the location, two separate 911 callers advised dispatch that an adult male was exposing his genitalia towards children who were near an inflatable bouncy play structure.

On arrival, officers were flagged down by a witness and the suspect was pointed out. The suspect was contacted and identified as, forty-eight-year-old, Damien Hansen. Officers investigated and placed Hansen under arrest for violations of 314-indecent exposure and 647.6- annoy or molest a child. Hansen was transported and booked at Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on the above listed charges.

We recognize that this is the second case in the last couple of weeks where a suspect has been charged with “annoying or molesting a child” and that the term has caused some confusion. This specific charge (PC 647.6) encompasses a wide range of behavior intended to disturb, harm, or improperly influence a minor. This can include things like inappropriate touching, suggestive comments, or even exposing oneself to a child.

We want to extend our sincere gratitude to the community members who took the time to report suspicious activity and criminal behavior in our neighborhoods. Your vigilance and willingness to contact the police play a critical role in keeping our community safe. By speaking up, you help us respond quickly, gather valuable information, and prevent further harm. Your partnership is essential, and we thank you for being active participants in protecting and strengthening the safety and well-being of our community.
