Evansville man arrested for DUI. 
Traffic Stop Leads to DUI and Drug Charges
On April 28, 2025, at 12:35 a.m., Deputy Michael Bates conducted a traffic stop on a blue 2014 Chevy Captiva after observing a moving violation on Broadway in Princeton. Upon stopping the vehicle on Embree Street near Broadway, Deputy Bates identified the driver as 34-year-old Micah Smith of Evansville.
While speaking with Mr. Smith, Deputy Bates detected the odor of marijuana and alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. At that point, he initiated a roadside DUI investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation, Deputy Bates placed Mr. Smith into custody and transported him to the Gibson County Jail.
Upon arrival at the jail, Mr. Smith was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated/Refusal and Possession of Marijuana. He was also issued citations for failing to dim headlights, operating with an open alcoholic beverage container, and driving while suspended (infraction).
Princeton Officer David Jones and Sgt. Ben Kiesel assisted Deputy Bates in the investigation.
All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
