Traffic Collision with Injuries.

At approximately 9:13 AM on April 24, 2025, the Santa Maria Police Department responded to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision on the northbound on-ramp to U.S. 101 at Broadway. Upon arrival, officers located an injured pedestrian at the scene. Medical personnel immediately rendered aid and transported the individual to Marian Regional Medical Center for further treatment. The pedestrian sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.

The collision was witnessed and captured on a vehicle dash camera, which assisted officers in identifying the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled the scene without stopping and was later located by SMPD officers near the intersection of Broadway and Cook at approximately 9:30 PM. Officers contacted and identified the driver as 41-year-old Ricardo Martinez Alfaro, a resident of San Luis Obispo, California. Alfaro was subsequently booked into the Santa Barbara County North Jail for felony hit-and-run causing injury.

Based on preliminary information, the driver who fled the scene was determined to be at fault for the collision. At this time, the pedestrian is expected to recover from his injuries. It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.

The Santa Maria Police Department’s Traffic Bureau is actively investigating the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Officer Nickolas Barton at (805) 928-3781, extension 1358.
