OPD Officers Arrest Suspect Following Community Tip
A suspect is in custody following a collaborative effort between community members, business ambassadors, and the Oakland Police Department (OPD).
On April 24, 2025, members of OPD's walking unit received a call that a person matching the description of a suspect involved in two assaults earlier this month was in Oakland Chinatown. Officers immediately arrived in the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
During the search, officers spoke with a Business Improvement District (BID) ambassador who provided information on the suspect's possible location. Officers found the individual and confirmed he was the suspect they were looking for, and he was safely taken into custody.
During an interview with OPD's Criminal Investigations Unit (CID), the suspect confessed to committing the assaults.
This arrest highlights the successful collaboration between community members, business ambassadors, and OPD. Their partnership was instrumental in the suspect's identification and arrest.
Background:
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating an assault that occurred around 9:45 a.m. on April 10, 2025, in the 200 block of 8th Street. Officers responded to the area following a report of an assault.
When officers arrived, they learned that an unknown suspect had assaulted two individuals. According to one of the victims, the incident began when they requested to inspect the suspect’s bag before allowing entry into the business. The suspect reportedly became agitated and began punching and kicking the first victim. As the second victim attempted to intervene, the suspect struck them with a shopping cart.
