Breaking and Entering arrest leads to multiple charges.
On April 25th, 2025 Marion Police Officers responded to the area of Broad Street for a breaking and entering to a Motor Vehicle. When officers responded and arrived on scene, several more calls in the area began to come in about other vehicles being broken into. Eventually, residential video camera footage from the area was obtained of a possible suspect. Officers were then able to search the area and locate Casey Hughes of Marion which matched the description from the video footage.
Hughes was taken into custody and transported to the police department for questioning. While interviewing Hughes, he confessed to several more motor vehicle break-ins that had previously occurred over the last several weeks within Marion. Numerous items were taken from each of the vehicles Hughes broke into. Those items ranged from laptop computers to women’s purses containing credit cards, medication and cash. Most of the stolen property from many of these vehicles were recovered during this investigation. Recovery of that property Hughes either had on him at the time of his arrest, or by him telling officers where the items could be located.
Hughes was charged with the following after being interviewed.
6 counts Breaking and Entering to a Motor Vehicle
3 counts Felony Larceny
3 counts Misdemeanor Larceny
He was given a $120,000 secured bond and confined in the McDowell County Jail.
A total of six vehicles were broken into over the last several weeks inside the city that Hughes confessed to. All of these vehicles were unlocked at the time the crimes occurred. This is good reminder to everyone to make sure to lock your vehicles at all times to prevent this type of theft.
