Vehicle Chase Leads to Multiple Drug Charges and Truck Seizure for Marion Man
Detective David Jones with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team charged Marcus Leonard Pendley, 35, of Marion, with the following:
• Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle
• Felony Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance
• Felony Maintaining a Vehicle, Dwelling or Place for Controlled Substance
• Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver a Schedule I Controlled Substance
• Misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer
• Misdemeanor Littering (Not >10 lbs)
Pendley was denied bond due to already being out on pretrial release.
On Saturday, April 19, detectives attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a GMC Sonoma in the Old Fort area. Pendley, the driver, had outstanding warrants for his arrest.
A vehicle chase ensued, leading detectives and a N.C. State Highway Patrol trooper down Bat Cave Road toward the Crooked Creek community. Once apprehended, Pendley was placed under arrest.
A search of the vehicle turned up suspected amounts of fentanyl in both powder and pill form.
The truck was seized under the state’s “Run and You’re Done” law.
