Deputies Save Individual from Burning Vehicle
In the early hours of Sunday, April 20th, at approximately 2:15 a.m., deputies from Patterson Police Services responded to assist the California Highway Patrol (CHP) after receiving an iPhone crash detection alert near the intersection of Jennings Road and West Main Street.
Upon arrival, deputies located a single-vehicle accident where the vehicle had left the roadway and caught fire in a field just south of the intersection. Preliminary findings indicate the driver was heading south on Jennings Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at West Main Street, causing the vehicle to crash into the field and ignite.
While the car was engulfed in flames, Deputy Cummings later discovered an individual laying face down on the passenger side. He quickly moved the individual to a safe distance from the burning vehicle. The driver, who showed signs of alcohol impairment, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the California Highway Patrol.
