SIMI VALLEY, CA — At approximately 1:51 PM on Saturday, May 3, 2025, a single-engine, fixed-wing aircraft crashed in the Wood Ranch neighborhood of Simi Valley, impacting two single-family homes and sparking structure fires. Firefighters from the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) responded swiftly, extinguished the flames, and secured the scene for investigators.

Tragically, both occupants of the aircraft — the pilot and one passenger — were killed in the crash. A dog onboard the aircraft also perished. No injuries were reported on the ground.

The aircraft has been confirmed by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) as a VANS RV-10, a four-seat, single-engine plane. The flight originated from Lancaster, CA and was en route to Camarillo, CA under instrument flight rules (IFR).

The identities of the deceased are being determined by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office (VCME). For all inquiries regarding the identities and backgrounds of the victims, please contact the VCME directly at 805-641-4400.

The NTSB has assumed control over the investigation, which has been assigned Report Number WPR 25-FA147. The crash site portion of the investigation concluded at approximately 3:30 PM on Sunday, May 4. All investigators from both the NTSB and the Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) have cleared the scene.

All roads, including High Meadow Street, have since reopened. Residents have been allowed to return to the area, although two homes have been “red” and “yellow” tagged due to structural damage.

The NTSB has recovered all major aircraft components and will continue its in-depth investigation at an offsite location. The full investigation is expected to take 12 to 18 months to complete.

The SVPD remains available to assist the NTSB as needed, though no further press conferences from the Simi Valley Police Department are planned at this time.
